No more hypothetical questions exist for head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown and the West Virginia women’s soccer team. The Mountaineers are officially headed to the Big 12 Conference in 2012.
Coach doesn’t want to move west without first recognizing some great years in the Big East Conference.
“Obviously, I’ve always appreciated the Big East and the professional manner that the conference has provided for West Virginia in women’s soccer,” Izzo-Brown said. “But looking forward, (the Big 12) is a great soccer conference. For women’s soccer, I’m looking forward to the challenges and the opportunities that the Big 12 presents.”

Why was I under the impression that teh Big 12 did not have Women’s Soccer? I thought this was a reported fact and that our women’s team would have to allign with another conference for this sport. So what happened? Did the Big 12 jsut add this sport or am I just terribly mis-informed?
there is no men’s soccer in the B12-2. But we have to pick up a sport like say men’s golf (whoopee)
…or track and field (a much better option, in my opinion).
agreed (but I have to keep writing in order to acknowledge my agreement that track would be my choice over golf)
Thanks for the info. And with that… Is there any word which league our Men’s team will play?
Also I’m for Track as well. You can always get some cross-over for other sports. The reason I think it will go the way of the putter is that Track is far more expensive than Golf in the long haul.
early on, there was some rumblings about playing in the MAC. Akron has a strong program and good soccer is being played at smaller schools, but haven’t heard a whisper recently.
Ollie’s been kinda busy on the radio circuit selling WVU to the B12 and fighting off lawsuits from BE and FSU and trying to get tax dollars for a baseball stadium and . . . oh yeah . . . he has a son who may kick the face of the Indianapolis Colts to the curb
i too think golf will be the next entry – not only for costs, but less men means less title 9 balancers.
track would help football – some WR/DB burners will only go to schools where they can compete in track. UMd lost some kids because they dropped or are dropping their men’s track program program (gotta love Edsall on the hotseat).
with the buyout, baseball complex, adding non-revenue sports and not getting full share of B12 money, I wonder if we’re gonna have a few lean years until we get fully vested. Or does even a partial share of B12 outpace the BE?
oh and add airport upgrades to the wish list – that could be federal dollars (but Manchin isn’t Byrd.)
