The No. 3 West Virginia rifle team fell short of winning the Great American Rifle Conference regular season title this weekend.
Without the aid of their top shooter, the Mountaineers (10-2, 5-1) were dropped by the defending national champion, No. 2 Kentucky (11-1, 6-0) 4,680-4,650.
WVU struggled without junior Petra Zublasing, falling to its rival in smallbore 2,315-2,294 as well as air rifle 2,365-2,356.
Meanwhile, the Italian national team member struggled little while shooting at the Rocky Mountain Rifle Championships alongside some of the best shooters in the world.
