It appears all of the moves West Virginia University has been making in lining itself up to become a full-fledged member of the Big 12 Conference by July 1 have not been done in vain.
Multiple media outlets reported Wednesday the Mountaineers and the Big East Conference have reached a cash settlement – said to be as much as $20 million – that would allow lawsuits on both sides to dissolve and West Virginia to begin play in the Big 12 in all sports in time for the 2012-13 school year.
The Big East has offered nothing to substantiate the reports, with Commissioner John Marinatto participating on a teleconference Wednesday to announce Memphis joining the league in 2013, but avoiding any talk about West Virginia, citing the lawsuits in play.
