Longtime Assistant Steve Dunlap Out for WVU Football

Dana Holgorsen said following his team’s 38-14 loss in the Pinstripe Bowl that he would conduct a full evaluation of the program in the offseason. The first major move in the process took place on Saturday with the firing of assistant head coach Steve Dunlap.

West Virginia football Sports Information Director Mike Montoro confirmed the firing Saturday.

Dunlap was in his second coaching stint with the Mountaineers, having served on former WVU coach Don Nehlen’s staff from 1984 to 2000, including 10 seasons as defensive coordinator. He then coached at Syracuse, North Carolina State and Marshall before returning to Morgantown when Bill Stewart put together his staff for the 2008 season.
