Herd had WVU on the ropes

Marshall University’s football team had West Virginia University right where it wanted the Mountaineers.

In a packed and raucous Joan C. Edwards Stadium, where the Thundering Herd held a 21-6 lead with just over eight minutes to play.

Marshall had the ball inside the Mountaineer 5-yard line. One more score and the wildest celebration in the history of Huntington officially would be under way. The Mountaineer meltdown being witnessed by a national television audience would be complete.
