As some of you may have noticed, Matt and I tend to fall on opposite sides of an argument on a pretty regular basis. If you’re already familiar with that, you’re very likely also familiar with the fact that I’ve built myself a bit of a reputation here as our resident pessimist while Matt frequently tends to take a more positive outlook on things. Certainly not a bad thing, in fact it’s one of the things that makes this site (and others like it) such an enjoyable place to hang out. We can argue different sides of things while keeping it respectful, but at the end of the day we’re all still OU fans and we all still share that common allegiance.
Building off of those facts, we decided it might be a good idea for us to take our opposing view points and debate particular subjects to help pass the time this offseason. With several relevant topics in the news as of late, we chose to kick this off with last week’s news of the Big 12 and SEC partnership. But we’ll also be addressing specific areas of this Oklahoma football team in coming editions (assuming you all don’t boo us off the stage with this new “experiment”) as well.
So without further adieu . . .

what if . . . this champions game and the rose bowl are the play-in games to the NC game?
what if – the 4 bigs are working to set up their super conference scenario
forget the ifs
“This game is intended to work successfully within the new postseason structure,” Slive told CBSSports.com. “Once we understand what the structure is, we’ll figure out exactly how our game fits.”
thoughts about little old WVU really setting this new world order in motion
when ACC chose basketball centric schools, Cuse and Pitt, over WVU and closed the door on admitting WVU after the fact, the ACC po’d FSU and possibly Clemson.
that WVU’s brand has strengthened B12 is also up for speculation. At the very least, suing to get out of the BE to get into the B12 to ensure that B12 could negotiate a new more lucrative TV deal places WVU as a “mover and shaker.” This new deal has FSU being jealous.
And they should be – as is, they will never keep up in an arms race with the SEC. They need the dollars to stay football relevant.
Neinas is brilliant – the new bowl game coupled with FSU realizing the ACC has a slow leak, might be enough for them to abandon ship.
if FSU and any other – Clemson, VT, GT go with them, the ACC will rebrand as an east coast BBall conference that also plays football – especially becuaue the Big 4 will swoop in and hand pick the schools they need to get to 16.
I suspect when this happens there will be a three tier Div 1 – if the super 64 even want to play by the NCAA rules. I also suspect they will because, other than football, the NCAA does a good job with other tourneys, scholarships and regulations.
On the message boards (Cuse) some are even okay with sliding into football obscurity. (truly Northeast is basketball centric but it doesn’t pay the bills).
Will Boise, Cincy, UL, San Diego State, USF, UCF, Temple, Uconn, and others end up in middle tier of Div 1 football. Taking the sport seriously but not getting to play with the big boys.
And what will happen to a school like Duke?
