Big 12 Football 2013: Five Conference Teams in Action Today

It's another football Saturday and 5 teams are in action. Number 20 Baylor finishes the bakery part of their schedule today with a cupcake that is a little lower in sugar as they take on the 2-1 University of Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks.

ULM has victories over Wake Forest and Grambling and were shut out 34-0 by Oklahoma to start the season. The Baylor Bears should make it an easy 3-0 heading into their October 5 matchup with West Virginia. The Baylor Bears ended up squeezing by ULM by 70-7.

The 2-1 Mountaineers face 3-0 Maryland today in a game that should be something of a barometer for both teams. Maryland has feasted on two cupcakes and a weak U Conn team going into today's game as slight favorites over WVU.

The Mountaineers have two wins over bakery delights as well as a slugfest loss to the Sooners so far this season. The game in Norman, Oklahoma left both teams with more questions than answers in a game riddled by turnovers on both sides of the ball.

Maryland ended up feasting on Ford Childress and WVU, 37-0. The loss to Maryland left the Mountaineer coaches looking for answers as they were shut out for the first time since 2002.

Oklahoma is 3-0 after destroying Tulsa in addition to their wins over ULM and WVU. Oklahoma has a bye week before their September 28 contest at Notre Dame.

The Kansas Jayhawks came into today with a 1-1 record including a win over South Dakota and a loss to Rice. Kansas managed to defeat  Conference USA's 1-3 Louisiana Tech by coming from behind in a close contest by 13-10. Although Tech dominated the stats, its the final score that counts.

Number 25 and 3-0 Texas Tech came into today's game against 2-0 Texas State from the Sunbelt Conference with the momentum of last weeks 20-10 victory over number 24 TCU. The Red Raiders of Texas Tech won by a score of 33-7 behind backup QB Davis Webb.

In the most notable Big 12 news for this week, Mack Brown and the now 2-2 Texas Longhorns defeated Kansas State. The Longhorns dominated the Wildcats with 346 total yards to 219 in the 1st half. Texas went on to win 31-21 as Jonathan Gray rushed for 141 yds. and 2 touchdowns.
