The last tie to West Virginia’s football coaching staff prior to Dana Holgorsen’s arrival has been fired.
Holgorsen has fired special teams coordinator and associate head coach Steve Dunlap. Dunlap could not be reached for comment, but WVU athletic director Oliver Luck confirmed the move Saturday night.

WVU’s ills? Let us count them up
In the second half of his team’s 67-57 loss to Oklahoma Saturday, West Virginia coach Bob Huggins watched forward Deniz Kilicli miss an easy layup while being fouled.
Huggins walked toward his team’s radio setup, gunning for a water bottle, and shook his head.

Out-toughed by the Sooners

Everything they do this season is going to be a struggle, and if they aren’t prepared to play tougher than their opponents, they aren’t going to win many games.

Steve Dunlap better not be the last of the firings. If it is, Dana hasn’t really done much to keep from being in the hot seat if his team lays an egg next season.
The only thing that would make any sense is if he puts Deforest over special teams and then hires two high level folks for the open positions.
Seems to me, on the basis of Dunlap’s prior success on the defensive side of the ball, that they took him away from what he did well and put him over special teams…somthing that in my book requires ‘special’ attention. Perhaps they should have put him back on the defensive side of the ball.
I wonder if we could steal someone from Alabama to run our defense? Their ball boy or janitor, maybe? Either one would probably be an upgrade over DeForest.
