I fully support bidding out our third tier rights. Let’s see what the open market is willing to pay.

I’m hoping for something like cyclones.tv

I mean, why not create a site, charge a modest subscription fee and stream ALL WVU sports that aren’t covered in tiers 1 and 2? If I want to tune in to watch a soccer game, let me. If I want to watch our rifle team or volleyball team, let me.

No one expects third tier events to be on the same level as a football game against Oklahoma. So, don’t worry too much about spending a gazillion dollars on the production.

WVU has a journalism school, I’m sure there are some broadcast folks in there. Set up a camera or two to catch the action, put someone behind a microphone… that’s all you need for these kinds of things.

now Cassacza says ACC schools retain third tier rights. which is it?

ESPN owns all ACC third tier
ESPN owns partial ACC third tier
ACC schools own third tier

here’s my hope as we RFP our third tier. I’ve seen what an outside company has done to Terps online presence – it is as ugly as their UnderArmor uniforms – really flashing ads and crap make it unbearable.

I can only hope WVU sets some standards for branding and web content.

Bring FSU and Clemson. But the ACC can keep Virginia Tech and Miami. Miami is useless in football these days and VT keeps winning in the ACC simply because it’s the ACC.

Yeah, Ern, Shane and I have mentioned more than a few times how nice it is to just sit back and watch the conference expansion wheels turn – knowing that we’re safe.

I’ve got complete confidence in our AD, plenty of confidence in our Commissioner… and quite a bit of confidence in the ADs of our conference-mates (well… at least confidence that they won’t allow worthless teams into the conference… or teams that won’t be 100% “in”… i.e. ND).

And, the icing on the cake, is that Pitt will find itself on another sinking ship. You have no idea how much happiness that brings into my life.

more than $3 mil difference between ACC and B12 in annual money. ACC has given 1,2,3 tier rights to ESPN for $17 mil. B12 has given up tier 1 and 2 rights for $20 mil and then lets each school negotiate its own tier 3 – which is what WVU is exploring now – Reading that Kansas’ third tier rights are worth $10 mil. over how many years?

thinking about the stress we felt when we still aboard the sinking HMS BigLeast.

How wonderful to belong in a bigboy conference and ultimately recognize that we helped swing credibility and stability to the Big12 with our move.

no one is saying it, but since ESPN controls all third tier rights in the ACC, then that $17 mil per school package is piddling compared to the B12 which is giving $20 mil plus letting schools negotiate third tier rights for what will probably be at least $2 mil and could be much much more.

ESPN bought everything for $17 mil and this is AFTER recent renegotiation.

no wonder the FSU rumors – how can they compete in the shadow of the SEC?
