Who cares what our class is ranked...means nothing. Tavon Austin was rated a 2-star by many services. Too many variables. All that counts is that we know they are a good fit for our team and that they want to be West Virginia Mountaineers.

I don't think there's enough of a reason to foul with a 4 pt. lead. I'd just play D and if they score, get the ball in and win it at the foul line. Putting them at the line gives them a better opportunity to set up pressure and foul quickly on the ensuing inbound.

I think it depends on your defense as well as the time if you're up 3. You have to have smart players who will be sure that the clock runs to at least 6 sec or less before fouling and smart enough to foul in a situation where the offensive player can't force his way into a shooting foul. In other words, if an offensive player sees a defender coming at him to foul him, he's gonna throw a shot towards the basket to get a shooting foul for 3 shots. If they're inside the 3 point line, there's no reason to foul. And if there's more than 7 sec., there gonna get a foul on the inbounds and if your lucky, your gonna be in the exact same situation the next time they have the ball. It's a lot to ask of a player who's only played in those situations a handful of times.

A lot of questions here. How good is the other team at shooting free throws? Can you foul the guy you want to foul? Personally, I move my guys outside the 3 point line and give up the two point bucket if needed. I don't foul and give them a shot and stop the clock. Even if they make a 3, you can still win in overtime. If it's a 4 pont lead, yes, I foul, if there is under 10 sec left on the clock.

I look at it in this perspective, if my team has the ball in that situation, I hope the other team does not foul. I would much prefer to have all of my options open. I guess I am saying that, in most cases, I would foul the other team. Now, that could change if I was having a terrible problem rebounding missed shots, or, taking into consideration that Meatball may be behind a plot that would have my team called for an intentional foul. No, on second thought, in Meatball's conference, I'll just play defense.

not a complete breakdown. the question of time left on the clock is just as essential to the question. a full shot clock versus five seconds or less on the clock = two very different strategies. i'm not sure the study goes far enough. obviously the teams that were fouled either got an O rebound off a miss or able to get a turnover or fouled the team that was leading with enough time to gather a rebound or in-bound and get another shot.

it would be interesting to break down each case to see how the game was lost - the stats don't tell enough.

i think what makes Huggs such a great coach is that he doesn't follow a formula. Probably more intuitive than science.

I used to work with his dad. His dad was a security guard at the plant I worked at. Decent man, good sized too, so Jrod has it in his DNA.
And I would imagine jarod was made to walk the straight and narrow, his dad would not put up with any nonsense.
he will be a welcome addition. And don't be surprised if he doesn't get a shot on offense, but the young man truly only wants to play defense.

Hey Huggins, take at least one lesson learned with you: Spoonhole never went to the media to criticize his players.
