Notre Dame has long held the edge in the basketball rivalry with West Virginia, but the Mountaineers have trimmed that advantage in recent seasons.
West Virginia (16-8, 6-5) will play host to the Fighting Irish (15-8, 7-3) tonight in a Big East showdown at the WVU Coliseum. Tip-off is slated for 9 p.m., and will be televised by ESPNU. Notre Dame holds a 25-12 advantage in the series, but West Virginia has won four of the last five.
West Virginia snapped a three-game losing skid with an overtime win over Providence on Sunday. The Fighting Irish, whose biggest win of the season came over then-No. 1 Syracuse, is 12-5 against the Mountaineers under head coach Mike Brey.
