Kevin Jones was wrapping up a pickup game with his new Cleveland teammates on Monday when the Cavaliers’ general manager, Chris Grant, pulled him aside.
“After you’re done, it’s time for you to sign your contract,” Grant told Jones.
The former West Virginia basketball standout, who went undrafted back in June following a strong senior season, had been waiting for this moment. It didn’t take him long to get to Grant’s office and put ink to paper.
“I just did it. I put my initials down, signed everything and got ready to go,” Jones says. “It felt great. You just look back on all the hard work that you went through to this point and it makes it all worth it. Nothing is guaranteed, but I definitely took a step forward in the right direction today and I like my chances of making the team.”
