West Virginia (16-9, 6-6 Big East) saw a brief late-game lead slip away against Notre Dame (16-8, 8-3 Big East) on Wednesday as the Mountaineers fell to the Irish 55-51 from the Coliseum.
Neither team could put much together in the first half – especially West Virginia. The Mountaineers scored only 16 points, equaling their lowest point total at halftime of the year as they trailed 26-16 at the break.
Overall, the two teams went a combined 3 of 21 from three in the first half. West Virginia, meanwhile, made just 7 of 29 field goal attempts for 24 percent shooting.
