A national magazine recently published its preseason Top 25 college basketball rankings and the list is headed by the traditional powers — Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, North Carolina, West Virginia.
Wait a second. West Virginia?
“People probably think it’s a mistake,” swingman Da’Sean Butler said. “A problem with an editor.”
No mistake. One year after the Big East was regarded as the best league in college basketball history, West Virginia is the latest program to stake a claim to joining the elite.
The Mountaineers were picked second (215 points) in the coach’s preseason poll, just three points behind Villanova (218), which went to the Final Four last year.
