While things are starting to turn around for the West Virginia men’s basketball team, they definitely don’t look good just yet.
Somehow, the Mountaineers have found themselves just 2.5 games out of first place in the Big 12 Conference standings and have won five games in league play. But they have yet to beat a team currently ahead of them in the Big 12 standings – just one victory against Texas Tech and sweeps over Texas and TCU.
Unless they can start stringing together even more wins, and more importantly win games against quality opponents, West Virginia will likely miss the NCAA tournament for the first time since John Beilein’s final season in Morgantown.

I realized we were playing just two seniors (Humphreys is taking up bench space), but didn’t grasp how young this team really is. Next year Murray will be the only Senior. No wonder the team looked like crap so early in the year. I htought Staten was Junior but listed as a sophomore means we have three So point guards – that sounds crowded.
This may be Huggs greatest coaching job. (those essays must have worked) the team actually looks like a team – even in the Kansas loss. Still to be legit, they need to beat a team away from home in the RPI top 50. Could happen tonight.
One thing is for certain, the B12 is not the Big East. Very obvious that some of these schools (TCU) see basketball as a placeholder for football season.
